The book Mice and Men is about two men that live together and how one is not really smart. You can take quotes out of this book and describe them in a literal term or you can zoom out and put them in terms with the characters.
One quote from the book is "the Salinas river drops in close to the hillside bank and runs deep and green." In literal terms you can take out the word green and know that it means, natural, the earth, fresh growing plants. Another phrase you could take from the qoute is runs deep means that it is solid or a deep river. Close is another word you could use and it could mean close like close the lid or close as when your close to somebody. These terms can be turned into a way so they transter to the characters like green means how Lenny is young in a way h0w he does not act like an adult usually. Runs deep can also means how George is more of a deep person and how his thoughts are more deep and complex than Lenny's.

Another quote from the book is " slopes curve up to the strong and rocky Gabilan mountains." The word strong means to have stength, just like a rock is strong, sturdy, and can be held on by its self. A way it can be used to explain Mice and Men is that Lenny is strong with his muscles, but does not really have a strong mind. George is like a rock in a way, he is the foundation two the pair of them he is also strength in his mind.
The last quote is " under the trees the leaves lie deep and so crisp." A tree is a large plant that comes in many different species, it also has roots that are the base of the tree. Leaves grow on the tree and fall off every year. George is the tree he has plans where the two them are going to live and is the mind between the two. Lenny is the leaves on the tree, George does not need Lenny to survive but Lenny needs George to survive. Just like leaves need a tree.
Tone
The tone of the book is desperation and bitterness to the place they are in life and how they do not really have a say in how their life unfolds. Candy is eager when he hears George and Lenny talking about the place they want to get and he wants to be a part of it to and George is on guard right from the start from telling him anyting.
Eager is the first word that sets teh tone "Candy said i got two hundred and fifty dollars cause i lost my hand and i have fifty more comin the at the end of the month. Tell you what he leaned forward eagerly. Suppose i went in with you guys and i could live there with you. These quotes show how eager Candy is to get out of this ranch and actually live on his own and not take orders from others anymore. It tells how eagers he is because he is willing to go into buisness with two strangers and give them three hundred and fifty dollars.
The other term is on guard "George sat in trance of his own picture. When Candy spoke...you know where' s there a lace like that? George was on guard immediately.S'pose i do he said whats that to you?....I gotta think about that. We was always gonna do it by ourselves" George is on guard about telling anybody about his plan to get his own place he does not want to have is hopes up and someone to cursh his dreams. George is defensive because he feels he cannot trust anybody.
These to words help the tone of the book change from Candys point of view on how he is eager to start a new life. Than George who is guarded because he cant trust anybody.

Being your brothers keeper is sometimes a burden that we have to bear. In the novel Mice and Men George is Lennys keeper. He makes sure Lenny stays out of trouble and when he cant keep him out of it he runs off with him and finds a new job. He also helps Lenny dream he gives Lenny hope of a better life were he will "take care of the rabbits". George also had to a hard thing which was take Lennys life for his own good. Sometimes being a persons keeper is not the best thing in the world but its something we all have to do.

I believe in the statement being my brothers keeper. For one i have a younger brother who does have some certain dissablities and i know i will always be there to protect him if he needs me. I believe it is one of the reasons God put us here was to look out for each other. We all need somebody to lean on because mankind is not perfect and we all need help sometimes. So i belive that we are all are brothers keeper.

The Photograph that Speaks

The photograph Migrant Mother by Dorothea Lange is something that speaks so many words without saying anything at all. The first first photo is the mother holding her two children, makes makes me feel a swirl of emotion. Her face is hard and has wrinkles etched on her forehead that and looks to old for her age. Her face makes me feel desperate and haggard, she looks so tired sitting there with to babies. Her face shows how she has just enough strenght to go on. The way she is looking out makes me think of how she is lost in time just hoping on getting through the day. Her face is the number one thing that speaks to me in this photo, because there is so many emotions in on her face and in her eyes. Another thing that I see when i look at this picture is how her two small children latch on to her looking as if they will never let go, as if their mother is their saviour and she will always be there to help them through these tough times. This photo makes me feel desperate and useless because i yearn to help this poor family even though this photo was taken over eighty years ago. It also makes me respect and love my mother even more for what she has sacrificed for my well being. This photograph i a symbol of how to go on when you have reached the end of the rope, but you keep fighting because there is nothing else you can do.

The Giver

The Giver is a intersting book that has emotion and meaning to it. In the beginning Jonas is a boy who is just about to turn twelve, the year when the Council picks out your chosen Occupation. He is anxious to learn what they have chosen since he has no clue what his passion is. His best friend Asher pretty much already knows what he is going to be and so does everyone else in his class. Jonas is surprised to find out he is to become the giver the person in the community who is the most respected and looked up to. He begins working with the reciever every day and soon learns the world used to be a very different place. He learns colors, music, and how mankind used to live. With every memory Jonas becomes more and more confused about how his community lives now. Jonas is soo put to the test when a baby that his family has taken in, is to be released which Jonas finds out means to be killed. Jonas is overwhelmed with emotion and he takes drastic measures and kidnaps the baby Gabriel and runs away from all he has ever known. This book is a thrilling novel that leaves you questioning your ownself.

Spring Break

Spring break. my spring break was fyll of new experiences, i turned sixteen on March 28 which was the last day of spring break. This spring break i mostly hang out with my friend Courtney since she is a seniow this year this was the last year we would get to hang out together while we were both in highscool. This year was a time of new things i had fun celbrating my birthday for a whole week.

I started the Spring break with a bang going to the mall with a group of friends and shopping all day. That is when i found my prom dress and shoes all in one day. Later we all went and ate at Olive Garden. It was a great day just to relax and goof off with the girls.

The next few days wre kind of boring i just hung out with the family and saw my Dad who lives in Houston, Texas. Since my little brother was visting our Dad for the rest of the wee it was pretty quite at our house so Mom and me decieded to have a little party at the house. All our close friends came over and we had a blast.

That weekend was fun to since my birthday was coming up Courtney and my other close friends took me out to eat at Mi Ranchitos (which is an amazing place to eat.) It was great they also had the waiters come sing me happy birthday and put a sombrero on my head it was a pretty embarrassing moment for me. Later that night we just hung lout being wild and crazy teenagers it was great.

In conclusion, my spring break was really great i got to spend time with my friends goofing off at at the mall and later on my birthday. I also had lots of time to sleep in and just enjoy quality with my Mom.

book review

Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen is a touching book that gives you a few life lessons. Its about a girl named Ruby who believes she can do everything herself and wants to be na independent woman who doesnt owe anybody. This suddenly changes when her mom takes off and she is sent to live with her uptight sister who she hasnt seen in ten years and her nice husband Jamie. Ruby thinks believes this is a temporary thing because she will be eighteen in a few months. That is until she meets a the neibhors son when she tries to escape her first night there.

The way the author writes i kind of dislike, i dont like that she will be right in the middle of a story and then she will go back in time about another character, or how she sometimes doesnt give enough detail on whats going on at the time. with that said i do love how she makes her characters so real. They dont have fairy tale lives with a perfect family but their not totally phscyo either their just normal girls with everyday issues.

people taking a stand

One person i admire who has taken a stand is Hayden Pantierre she has did some shocking things to make her voice heard. Hayden is a animal activiest and is really passionate about the whales. Sailors in China have been killing these creatures so they would stop eating their fish. Hayden went to China to protest and now has a warrant for her arrest there! i think its amazing because she is an actress and you usually dont see that many actresses almost getting arrested to protesting about whales. i admire her because she will stop at nothing for her voice to be heard.
